I am working on a 1996-2001 Lexus ES (XV20) with the 1MZ-FE engine. I am currently reinstalling the camshafts/timing components and need to know if the cam phaser (VVT-i actuator) should be in the locked or unlocked position during installation onto the camshaft.

Are there specific steps required to ensure the lock pin is correctly seated or released before or after the timing belt is installed? Any torque specs or timing alignment tips for this specific VVT gear would also be very helpful.

Why won't my 2006 GS350 crank, it sat during the big snowstorm. When I press the brake and start button the dash lights up but the car won't crank, also the radiator coolant fans come on and will run until I shutoff the ignition. I disconnected the battery and allowed it to stay disconnected for a bit with the hopes that car's system would reset but that didn't help.
