MSI Laptop: GS65 Fan rattling noises reported by many users. how to fix?

Hello,

the GS65 model is a pretty popular gaming machine but is plagued by malfunctioning fans. After about 1 month of use, buyers report one (or both) of the fans start making rattling noises. Can you create an MSI GS65 dissasembly guide, including replacing/fixing the fan if possible? I am considering buying this machine, but am reluctant to do so unless i at least know it’s user-fixable.

MSI GE72 6QD Apache Pro: CPU sometimes runs at 90+ degrees C, what should I do?

Hello! :D

Background / Information

My laptop sometimes gets really hot, the CPU goes up to over 90 degrees Celsius (not seen it over 100, yet). Same happens to the GPU, but only when doing things like rendering images of 3D-models.

The CPU gets to those temperatures after playing games like Minecraft for an hour or so, which feels weird since it is a gaming laptop and should be able to handle Minecraft on middle settings. The CPU usually is about 25-60% when getting to these temperatures.

When doing things like watching Youtube or similar, the CPU is running at about 50 degrees C and the GPU at about 40.

I know that the GPU fan is a bit faulty, it’s now running at about 1000 RPM when maxed while it from the beginning was at 6000 RPM. The CPU fan is still running at 6000 RPM.

So I get why the GPU gets hot when doing things like rendering, so I usually lock it to only be able to use half of the GPU power, it’s still at about 80-90 degrees but staying stable.

The temperature and fan speed data are taken from the MSI Dragon Center menu.

What I have tried

I have tried opening the computer and blowing away all possible dust I can find, I can’t get to the heat sink or fans because then I have to remove the fan assembly from the heat sinks. I didn’t have thermal paste when doing this, so I didn’t touch it.

What I need help with

Now when it’s getting to summer here in Sweden and it feels like it’s hotter outside than ever before, so the problem has been getting worse.

So I would really like some help and tips on what I should do, to at least make the temperatures better.

1: Do you have any tips on what I should do?

2: Is that idle temperature normal?

3: Is it bad or more, how bad is it for the CPU running at those temperatures?

MSI Laptop: Upgrading laptop screen from FHD to 3K/4K

I own GT60 Dominator 2PC. It has MS-16F4 motherboard, Core i7-4700MQ processor (integrated GPU 4600). It originally came with GTX 870m but I recently upgraded this with GTX 980m. My existing laptop screen is FHD 15.6 IPS panel LED backlight.

Now, I want to extend this upgrade to screen as well. Recently, MSI has announced GT60 Dominator 2QE 4K Edition with GTX 980m/970m. It has same motherboard MS-16F4, same BIOS E16F4IMS.51A, same EC firmware 16F4EMS1.517 and offers similar CPU (i7-4710HQ). I've already bought a screen "LQ156Z1JW02 ultra high resolution 3200*1800 15.6". It's on its way and in a week time I'll have it. I bought this screen believing that my laptop has same specs as high end latest offering from MSI. So, there shouldn't a matter of putting more strain on the existing hardware.

My question is:

Do I need to upgrade the LVDS (video cable) of my laptop to support 3K or 4K resolution. If yes, can anyone provide me the part number of the video cable from any MSI GT60 with 4K screen laptop. My laptop has 40 Pin connector.

Or is it a bad decision :).

MSI Laptop: Upgrade my GE62VR RF screen

Hi there,

I bough 2 years ago my MSI GE62VR 6RF Apache Pro laptop, it had a nice config with a GTX 1060 a core i7, an SSD and 16Gb of RAM but there's one drawback to this ... The screen.

It is a nice one but there's a big problem: It's a 60Hz locked one... 60 FPS gaming is nice but my hardware is good enough to go beyond it so as the next laptops got a 120Hz screen, I'd like to know if its possible to buy a 120Hz 15.6" screen from the new MSI laptops and replace my 60Hz one.

Can someone please help me ?
