I just want know can I replace my i5 7600k to the new i7 8700k?

Is it possible to upgrade?

My hdd is broken so I have to install a new one. Is it possible to install an SSD, and if it is, how is it done and which brand is optimal?

But the main point I need the OS & software run it faster instead of need a largest storage. Just wondering is easy to change it to SSD if the specs is Fusion Drive not. Or get the SSD specs is better, so if need to upgrade in future is still feasible.

I snagged the power button cables whilst removing the speaker. The cables have pulled completely out of the power button.

Is it possible to remove the power button and solder the cables back on, if so how do I remove it? Otherwise, what are my options?

I have already replaced the power supply with the same result. I also have tried unplugging both the HDD and the SSD and it still was restarting. I have tried switching out the RAM from another iMac and it still restarts.

When it restarts, it randomly shuts off and then boots again, sometimes over and over.

I have already taken it to an authorized Apple tech, and they told me they could never get it to reboot... the closet Apple Store is over 3 hours away so I am trying to troubleshoot this myself.

Any ideas on what I can try next? Thanks for your help!

I hooked the iMac to a plasma TV and it worked with no trouble. What is wrong?

This i mac is Model A1311 mid 2010 21.5"

I work with iMac 8 hours per day and don't have any problem!

It's totally recomended to change the CPU ! I install Lion and works perfectly.

I'm using an Intel based iMac (Mid-2011 model) 21.5 inch. It comes with a 500GB hard drive (ST3500418AS) and I'd like to replace (not add a new drive by removing the optical disk drive) that drive with an SSD (Samsung 840 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III Model #MZ-7TE1T0BW)

the ssd itself is 2.5 inch and I'm going to convert that drive to 3.5 inch drive by using a WD icepack which is sold on amazon.com for about $20 usd

first I'm going to attach the ssd into the WD icepack and then I'm planning to replace the original HDD that comes with the iMac by installing the SSD.

My questions are:

1. does apple allow 3rd party SSD's for iMac?

2. do I need any additional cable kit?

3. is it enough to change just the drives? (I mean HDD comes with a termal sensor, does the SSD need a termal sensor?)

4. do I need any software after installing the SSD (if possible) to control iMac's fan speed [I heard some people complaining about their fan speeds and the loudness of the fans]

Does anyone see any problem with this being able to work after the upgrades are in place?

So with the macOS 10.12.4 beta 1 and beta 2 the iSight camera doesn't work on our 2007 iMacs. It shows up in hardware but won't turn on. I am working on how to fix this.

Also, If you want Night Shift to work on our iMacs you can use clover boot loader with a smbios to trick the iMac into thinking it is a late 2013. You will have to apply a fix for USB because changing it to a late 2013 iMac smbios breaks all but one USB and also bluetooth (which is considered to be on an internal USB port) the patch that I have fixes all this. If anyone is interested let me know and ill make a right up.

I’m thinking of making some videos to post on youtube at my channel Nandor690. I do AppleTV stuff right now but I think I'm going to also get into making videos on hackintoshes and unsupported real Macs as well

I have figured out how to get Night Shift to work natively (Without using clover or doing any crazy hacks). Ill be posting a write up on this thread.

I'm still working on getting iSight working on 10.12.4 beta 1 and 2. Will keep everyone updated.

What I am working on now.

As you know, macOS 10.12.4 comes with the new feature Night Shift. But it doesn't work on our iMacs because they don't support Metal. late 2012 iMac is the first year for that.

I used Clover boot loader to make a smbios for a 2012 iMac and now my iMac thinks its a 2012 and night shift works!

A few draw backs are

• 2 of the 3 USB ports don’t work
• Bluetooth doesn’t work
• iSight camera doesn’t work.

I am working on fixes for these now. (Remember, those things don't work because I made my iMac think it is a 2012 instead of a 2007. NOT because I updated to 10.12.4. It is safe to update.

I’ll report back when I have fixes ready. I plan on setting up a couple threads in different forums and will link them here for you guys

Hello Mayer, at last I received the Power Supply yesterday and I assembled it a minute ago. My iMac is back in service! for a few seconds I was afraid of pushing the button and not hearing the chime... but there it was. Thanks again for your help, and thanks also to the members and participants of the ifixt it site.

So my Hard Drive Fan will run the full speed after 10 mins when I power on.

I google the solution and someone suggest that I can jump the connector to make the sensor short then it will show 0 C degree.

It works but I afraid the Hard Drive will overheat when I use for a long time.

Do you have any solution to solve this problem?

But while trying to close the iMac screen, all adhesives lined up, I connected the display's power cable and ribbon cable. Mistakenly, I lifted the display while trying to align bottom and ouch....the ribbon cable (vsync cable??) pulled out from its connector argh.....

I connected it back and closed the iMac. When I powered up there was a green vertical line (which was gone after a min) and the gray/black thick stripe about 1.5inch wide. This stripe stays all the time from boot to shutdown.

Tried SMC reset, PRAM reset... no luck.

I doubt the ribbon cable damage (is it vsync cable)...now I'm skeptical to reopen to play around without knowing what could be the issue.

Many questions on my mind....did I damage the display? Is the ribbon cable replaceable (I tried googling for spare part couldn't find a proper lead)?

Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Finally fixed the expensive mistake :)

Had a local shop fix my system in Dubai

Also the iFixit adhesive strips and the removal tool are a must have!

Can I swap out the original wifi card for an Intel 7260 card that gets 802.11ac? The connectors look the same but the intel card has Bluetooth on it as well, would this be an issue?

I run nothing but windows on my imac now.

It sure would be nice to get gigabit wireless as I am upgrading to an SSD hard drive.

I wanted to bring this question back up because I'm working with Miro to do a tear down and repair manual on this machine. We don't have one. I still don't have an answer that I know for sure will work and wanted to bring it before the attention of possibly some other contributors. I've subscribed to the Apple thread on this problem with no results. Any ideas? Thanks.
