Yes! If your phone is not locked to the carrier you can get a second SIM with a pay as you go plan in the other country you are going to. I carry three different SiM's when I travel to Europe. But, the first step is to get the carrier to unlock your phone if it's locked.
 
You may need to pay off the outstanding value of the phone before they will release it. Then when you get back you can swap the SIM back to your home carrierscarrier with your original number.
