Hi,

Your problem is that the "ground" connector" in the "female" socket of the extension cable is contacting the "microphone" connector in the Sony "male" plug and not the ground connector.

If you get one of these [http://www.cablechick.com.au/cables/35mm-4-pole-trrs-standards-bi-directional-adapter-ctia-to-omtp.html?gclid=CP7FwOfm09MCFdUEKgodOc0LkQ|adapters] to connect between the Sony headphones and the extension cable, it will solve the problem.

There are two main "wiring standards CTIA & OMTP" and depending on which particular one you have (and you might not know until you try it) and what you are trying to connect it to, this adapter will allow it to work for either one, unless you don't need it at all.

You do nonot have to buy a new cable.
You do nonot have to buy a new cable.

Hi Angela Cameron,
Hi Angela Cameron,
Just search for a ''3.5mm 4-Pole TRRS Standards Bi-Directional Adapter'' and select the supplier of your choice.
