Why don't my car grab gear right?

My escalade all of a sudden stopped getting the gears right. When I have it on overdrive it feels like it's being forced and I also have to give it more gas just to get it rolling. It wouldn't even make it up my driveway if I don't shift it to low 1 gear. When I give it gas I also hear like a humming sound from the engine. Does anyone know what this might be?
