benjamen50 is right but to add, as long as your home button and its flex (like you said - totally separate) is fine then you I can't imagine any reason why you would lose touch ID. And I haven't had any issues updating your iOS from this? And I don't recommend replacing the part of the screen that you damaged on its own. Anyways just be careful with the new one! And I'm definitely wondering if you have a 6s by the way you described your home button flex.
