Hi, I just had this very same issue with a new 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Model A2337 EMC 3598. The problem is not your keyboard its an incompatible trackpad.
-
Customer of mine brought in an M1 MacBook Air with a cracked trackpad. Everything was working great no issues with the keyboard. When I replaced the trackpad all of the sudden the A & D keys wouldn’t work anymore. Putting the old cracked trackpad back on would fix the issue. The new trackpad I had would work on another 2020 MacBook Air Intel version but that Intel trackpad would cause the same issue on the M1 as the brand new trackpad so I was confused. This particular problem with the A & D keys is caused by using a trackpad from an Intel 2020 MacBook Air on an M1 MacBook Air and possibly the other way around as well. I purchased my trackpads off of a vendor that lists them being compatible with all 2020 MacBook Air (Mobile Sentrix) but they are not.

I use a local parts distributor that has this trackpad in stock if you are still looking for it. You will have to order the trackpad from your exact model MacBook which I am assuming is the M1.
