Based on what what was explained in the comments I'm guessing that you might be using too much thermal paste. Believe it or not, there is a decent sized debate about thermal paste practices in PC building, and the repair community (I.E: Spreading it out, the three dots method, letting your heatsink spread it out for you).
-However, the general rule of thumb is that you should only put on enough so that it covers the surface area of the CPU, and it's not spilling over the sides.
