I know I might be late but I have the same MBP 14 and my keycaps just decided to fall off when I ignored this issue.[br]
My Spacebar and L key both fell off after turning mushy, then not going back up, then just fell off.[br]

In both cases it was one of the tiny plastic pins that hold the keycap in place, they just fell off and seemingly got stuck in the scissors or next to the membrane.
