Partial Sync and then error.

This is a built from parts ipod classic 80GB, so I am not sure the history of the board or hard drive.

Will sync around 3GB and then an error appears. When I disconnect the ipod there is actually only a few songs on it.

I have ran chkdsk for errors and it found none. I have reformatted.

Update

I just replaced the hard drive and its now working.

What error appears? when you format, what capacity does it give you at the end? Has it worked before?

iTunes could not copy "..name of song..." to the iPod because of unknown error occurred (-50). 74.34. This ipod is from left over parts from multiple broken ipods.

из

-50 is usually caused by iTunes not connecting to the iTunes store :) Arte all of your music files in your own library on your computer? What OS are you using?

из

When it failed I tried my iPod 120GB and it worked. Are you not allowed to use more then one iPod? All files are in one location on the internal hard drive. XP.

из

Right now, and with the error message you receive, it sounds more like an iTunes issue :) Have you tried to placed the iPod into diagnostics mode and checked on your HDD in particular?

Steven sounds like a bad hard drive. Since you build this one from parts, you could also try to replace the HDD ribbon cable, but the ultimate error seems to be the hard drive. Hope this helps, good luck.

Hello, i'm having the same problem on a ipod classic 6 gen 80gb.

It will only sync about 900 songs and 1000 pictures after that it stops sync and when i disconnect the ipod there in no songs on the ipod. To se if this was caused by a bad hard drive i have unhide the folder on the ipod and went to the music folder and all the songs are there but the ipod will not show the or recognize them, only on the pc can i see them. And i tried to drag songs and pic manually to the ipod using the pc even knowing that the ipod would not recognise then, but the point was to find out if the had drive would store more then 3gb and it did.

Does this mean its not a hard drive fault?

And Steven did you fix the problem with your ipod?

cesar, have you tried the Diagnostic mode? Have you tried to place the iPod in Disk mode and copied a large amount of files to it? Which error message do you get?

из

yes i tried diagonostic mode and manually went to the hard drive test but is that menu it only gave me 2 options and not 4, it should have showed :

HDSpecs

HDScan

HDSMARTData

HDRW

but could only see HDSpecs and HDSMARTData. Is this normal to only show 2 options?

And i tried to copy 35gb of music in to the ipod but only 8gb was copied, after this i got and error with a song wich i selected option to ignore and after this it gave error and said to do a disk check, so i take that there is good chance that the hard drive is gone, sad really the prices this devices cost they should be much better made...

из

Sounds like another bad hard drive:-)

из

yes... shame the good thing is that i never put more than 400 songs... can still be used

thanks

из

@ cesar, yes it is a good thing. The difference is that the cost of the NAND memory is still fairly high in comparison to the storage capacities of a hard drive. There are ways to convert them to CF cards, but it can also lead to other issues. Best of luck to you.
