My iPhone 3GS is not responsive when I connect it to my PC's via USB. Then when I plug in to my power adaptor it shows the "Use iTunes to restore" message.
I tried to use irecovery but the PC doesn't see the phone.
Please help me.

Have you tried dfu mode?
If you tried recovery mode that usually works but if it doesn't you may want to try to
connect the iphone to the computer
hold down the home and sleep/wake button for exactly ten seconds.
After 10 seconds release the sleep wake button but continue to hold the home button.
This is putting the device into dfu mode.
The screen should be black. It may take a few attempts to get your iPhone into DFU mode. Generally, hold down both buttons then release the Home button just before you think the Apple logo would appear. If you are still holding both buttons down and you see the Apple logo you are holding them down for too long!

Thank you! That was a great help. I can no get the iPhone recognised by the PC and try to update it. irecovery doesn't see it though.
For some strange reason when I connect the iPhone to my PC. The screen is always blank. But when I connect it to a charger I can see the "Use iTunes to restore" message.
I am now trying to update the phone on another PC. I think I tried to update the phone while the battery was low. Keeping y fingers crossed.

Hi, do u use a windows or mac pc? Have u tried another usb cable?

I ma using Windows. I have tried three different PCs. Two have USB powered hub. The same on all three.
