Where can I find the power pads on the logic board?

I used this macbook around 2 months ago and everything was working fine. i then needed to move house so i put the macbook and all in a box. when settling down, i open the macbook and tried to power it on however there wasn't the noise it usually does in the beginning, the screen didn't turn on and neither did the light indicator on the right.

Any one knows where i could find the power pads ? Thanks

julianbugejam what are the last three digit of your serial number? this will help to properly identify your computer. Also, any chance you could post a few good images of your logic board on here?

Do not take out the keyboard ribbon. Use a paper clip and connect 3 and 9. If you can't see the pins don't worry, they control the keyboard, so you are unlikely to damage anything. The computer will take a while to start up but you should see the fan spinning. There is another way if you google " jump start" or " Hot wire" MBP however this has never worked for me.... on a 2009 MBP...the video is for 2008 MBP but the pads are the same. I recommend trying to keyboard method first, because you are unlikey to damage anything.

tried connecting 3 and 9 however nothing worked. i connected 4/5 and 29 and the fan starting spinning but it didn't boot. the hard disk was spinning aswell but there was no data being travelled. tried taking out the ram and power booted and there was no beeping noise. could it be that the logic board is fried ?

also, once i remove the wire with which im using to connect 4 to 29, the fan stops turning.

I did this on a 13 inch mid 2009 MBP. Can you tell me the year of yours? If it's a 2010 the power pads are near the keyboard ribbon I've posted a picture of me hard starting a 2010 somewhere on here and will try to find it if so.Although keyboard method should work on 2010 too. Also make sure your camera cable is seated. If you can get the fan to spin again, press on the camera cable, I had this similar problem when the little black piece of plastic loosed my camera cable. you can even try holding down the camera cable and just pressing the power button. Good luck.

mine is the 2008 model the unibody. tried of the camera but no luck. thinking that the logic board might have went. however before buying one i wish to test it out to see if it really went before i go spending money, however i dont know how to do so because here in malta there arent any apple stores and the only official provider would take a lot of money just to have a look at it.

I had same problem and answers above didn't help me. It turns out that new macbook pro's doesn't have power on pads anymore.

The solution is:

Shorting Pin #5 on the keyboard connection (#5 from the right with battery facing up) of the logic board to a ground point will boot the laptop.

This is true for most late model macbooks and macbook pros from 2008~present.

Some models have different ways to do this, however this will work for 90% of the newer unibody laptops.

Found it from here: source of solution

@hukko, "new macbook pro's doesn't have power on pads" not right. Yes, the keyboard way is the way to go, but most of them still have power-on pads.

из

it quite hard to find out where are power on pads situated in new models

из

sure it is, but that does not mean that "new macbook pro's doesn't have power on pads"

из

ok, there is just lack of information in internet about "power on pads" location atleast about Model A1278

This is most likely unrelated to the problem but, maybe somebody who got led here with the same search i did. will find this helpful. I spent a long time searching for the power pads on my Macbook pro so i wanted to share the location.

Macbook Pro 11 A1398-2876 Mid 2014

Power pads are located above keyboard connector. right next to the screw in the middle of the logic board. Hope this will be helpful to someone else.
