Screen, mostly left part, has a clear red color

Hi everyone guys, this is my first post, I write for a friend who has the problem in the description. His computer is old an Acer Laptop Aspire 5920G, 4 or 5 years but it's still pretty good so he would avoid buying another if it's possible. Anyway it's about a month that the screen is more red than it is supposed to be. Specially the left part so it's not uniform. It's also strange that the problem is evident when you open the screen up and after some minutes it is on the red decreases. It still remain visible but less than when it turns on. I think it's something related to the cable or the connector but really not sure and no idea on what to do to repair. What do you think about this? I know you are the community able to fix it :)

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Thanks both of you, I tried with another display, a TV to be correct, connected with S-Video to SCART because it's the only display available which i have at home. TV doesn't have same problem so maybe it's really the screen which is bad. I'll tell him so he can decide what to do, thank you again. Can I choose both of your replies as correct?

Alexander Doni, try an external display, that way you will know that it is not your video card that cause this. If it is still pink, you have some GPU error, this may require either a fix on the motherboard or even a new motherboard. Loose or damaged ribbon cables are the most likely causes of the pink screen. Check your able for any damage to the insulation, replace it if necessary.Bad CCFL will definitely turn the display pink. you can change the CCFL but a bit of a PITA, you may consider a new LCD screen. The other possibility is a bad inverter, which is not likely, but possible. Try one thing at a time and see what works for you. You can replace the CCFL but for that you will have to know who made our LCD. Check the label on the back of your panel. Hope this helps, good luck.

I have seen the "Red" screen problem many times and it has always been a failing power source. In laptops that would be your inverter board, which is located inside of the display assembly and below the screen itself. I doubt it is a lose cable and will only be one of two things; being the inverter board or the screen itself

Removing the front bezel should be pretty easy, and involves removing the screw covers and the screws holding it down (4 at the top and 2 at the bottom), and then just prying it off. There should be 2 cables connected to it (on the left and right) and they are easily removed simply with a little tug.

Now the predicament that only the left side of the screen is afflicted with this problem is very peculiar as the inverterboard only affects the backlight of the screen which is illuminated by two tubes at the top and bottom of the screen, which means that if the top or bottom (or both) of the display is dim or red, then we know the inverter is the problem. In your case we are informed that the left side is afflicted, which unfortunately forces me to conclude that your screen is indeed going bad.

Fun Facts:

Most computer parts have a maximum and minimum operating temperature and as they go wear down, those thresholds change. The reason the red color seems to alleviate after a little time is due to the afflicted components "warming up" to a more optimal temperature at which it can operate.
