The last PATA - IDE type drives went in the PowerBook G4 late 2005. With the advent of the Intel processors in Mac, all hard drives have been SATA.

Yes that is part of the reason. I want to make sure the controller chip set in the drive itself is SATA and not PATA
I'm still looking for who manufactures the 512gb drive. And also how much heat it generates when heavily used (ie Video rendering).
I would like to know before throwing lots of money at it.
