New battery, new problems, what did I do wrong?

Ok so i bought and installed a battery from this site, and i did it successfully (or so I thought) and everything was good for a few days, but now I've noticed some odd problems with my iPod touch.

#1 iPod randomly goes into sleep mode, I can almost always get it to do this if I fast forward through certain songs very fast, and when i slide to unlock it, it goes right back to sleep mode. I usually have to reboot it. music playing does not stop or skip so it makes me think its not the hard drive.

#2 when it starts acting up, if i hit the Volume button, it acts like it gets stuck in either direction (button is not sticking)

Any ideas? Im thinking I didn't put the tape over the battery leads well enough and its shorting, or god forbid its the tiny drop of solder I coulnd't get out of one of the small copper dimples in the main board.

.

P.S i should add that the touch does not do this constantly, If i use it all day it maybe happens once or twice, unless i provoke it.

P.ss Im going to tear it apart again, can i use regular electrical tape to cover the battery leads? Or should i just be happy that i managed to put a battery in it and it works at all lol.

re-checking the internal connections is always a good idea, just to make sure everything is in its place. Have you tried to do an update or a format and re-sync? That might solve the sleep mode issue, the volume buttons sound like a loose connection.

well I've decided to try a resync/ format before I tear it apart again just to rule that out first. I don't want to risk damaging the LCD screen as I had some really close calls on my first teardown. I'll be back if that doesn't work.
