Can modify it to upgrade the memory of this device?

Hello there,

I was wondering myself if it is possible to upgrade an iPod Touch (no camera) 16gb flash memory.

Because it has free space inside released from the camera and other components I thouhgt it would be cool to install it a new flash drive and bypass it with the memory it already has.

The idea is to buy the same flash memory (Toshiba THGBX2G7B2JLA01).

If possible I would like to upgrade it to at least 128GB (Two modules of 64gb that is).

So please, someone expert enough could answer me. Is this possible? Even if I have to Jailbreak it or something.

I just want a high capacity iPod Touch. Is it possible?

You have to replace the flash chip. It is not possible to bypass or squeeze anything else into it, it does not work or even fit.

Opening up this device is very destructive. you cannot fully restore it to factory quality and the chip is very hard to replace. After all it's not worth the effort

I guess it's good to know. But I have to try it anyways, see if I can make it. I would love to have a 128gb iPod Touch or higher.

A step by step tutorial would be very appreciated.

But thanks again. I'm starting to think that I'll just have to sit and wait for this super sized iPod to appear.

Take a look at the tear down and the logic board replacement guide. Remove the board from the device, remove the metal shield and desolder the flash chip. It is a very difficult repair by itself, and find the right chip to buy is even harder. Still, it is possible. Good luck, Javier

Is the memory chip on the lines as a SDXC or microSD? Where you could replace 32, 64 or 126 gb with 256gb?
