Can I get a thin iPod Classic 160 GB (Thin) Hard Drive
and place it in a 3rd gen iPod?
they look the same dimensions? what about the connectors etc?

Thomas Lahoud, sorry but no. The HDD are different interfaces and different physically. You can see the difference on this guide, step 9 forward and compare it to this guide, step 10 and on. Those are not interchangeable. Hope this helps, good luck.
