What is the top called.

I have a 13'' MacBook Pro of the model identified in the Device box.

I have a burn mark in the middle of the display due to leaning the unit against a radiator.

I need to know two things.

(1) Does the screen have a separate backlight that is different from the LED screen itself?

(2) This next question has frustrated me, so please read this carefully before jumping to an answer. Here we go. If one was to saw a MacBook Pro in half along the hinge, there would be two pieces. The bottom one has the hard-drive and keyboard in it. The "top piece" has the screen display in it. What do you call the "top piece"? It is not a top, not a screen, not a cover, not a screen glass, not an upper body, not a lid. All these terms lead me to parts of the "top piece" and even to parts of the bottom piece. What is the "top piece" assembly called?

(3) Do you or anyone else sell a complete "top piece"?

-----------------------

(4) The hinge is beginning to wobble. How can I get a replacement for it. Both the "top" and the "bottom" of the hinge are worn.

Thanks !

steve, lets start off by really identifying your MavBook Pro. the 7 1 should probably be a 7.1 this would make it a :"Intro Date: April 13, 2010 Disc Date: February 24, 2011

Order No: MC374LL/A Model No: A1278 (EMC 2351*)

Subfamily: Mid-2010 13" Model ID: MacBookPro7,1

Std RAM: 4 GB Std VRAM: 256 MB

Std Storage: 250 GB (5400 RPM) Std Optical: 8X DL "SuperDrive"" is this correct? If so then the answer to number 1 is no. The backlight is in your panel, the WLED driver, fuse and circuitry on your logicboard. For number 4, replace the left and right clutch hinges, as for number 2, that should be your display clamshell. For any of your repairs, check the guides on here.

Hi Old Turkey,

The model info is "7,1" but I was not able to use a comma character in the posting.

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro7,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 2

L2 Cache: 3 MB

Memory: 4 GB

Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Boot ROM Version: MBP71.0039.B0E

SMC Version (system): 1.62f7

Ah, "Clamshell" -thank you very much. That seems like a good name.

After watching the videos, I can see that there is no advantage to getting a new screen and clamshell. The dirty work for the wobble is in the hinges and these are not integrated into the clamshell assembly.

Thanks a lot!
