do you normally listen to your music really loud? Because if you do you can end up blowing or damaging the speakers in the ear phones. The stock earphones cant handle a lot of loud music playing. I suggest going to Best Buy and spending a lil money for some nice ones that will last you a long time. Hope this helps

In my experience, when small particles get between the magnet and the coil (which is a pretty small space) they seem to produce a rattling noise. That may be your case. I have to say that these particles may never get out from that tiny space.

Why don't you try what had worked for me several times:

Kindly suck/blow the earphone sealing it with your lips and with the pressure of a VERY GENTLE kiss... you love you earphones, right? :). Do it two or three times and test in you ear if the distortion is gone. You may hear cracking noises during the process (because there is an extra back and forth movement on a plastic membrane inside). This solution may work for days, even weeks and sometimes forever.

Remember to be gentle, otherwise you may break the membrane and that will certainly kill your earphone.

Best wishes from Ecuador!

Do you modified the equalizer default configuration? Sometimes earphones cannot respond appropriately to certain frequencies, specially with "bass booster" settings.

I created an account just to say thanks and this fixed it. Even for longer than 4 years after your answer, it is still helpful.

Oh my goodness thank you! I recently bought a new pair today and one was really distorted, I was slightly annoyed because they were brand new but then I thought "That's to be expected for £1..." But I tried this and it worked perfectly! I just registered to say thank you.

Try whacking your fingers with the plug. It works for me.

Try cleaning up the plug: They tend to get dirty and this could be your problem. Blowing into the mp3 player plug might also fix the issue. If this doesn't solve the problem, then chances are your earphones are bad. The earphone plug can easily be replaced but in my opinion it could cost you the price of new earphones. Unless you have basic knowledge of soldering, you could save some cash doing it yourself :)

I also got the same problem multiple times... just restore your ipod & it'll b good to go.... worked for me everytime. Its due to operating system corruption. I just now fixed mine while googling for solutions.

This is usually a ground problem, Try pressing the button while playing the sound and if it worked, Then open them up and look for a disconnected wire (probably it’ll be the orange one). Hope this works
