Anyone know of a company that could repair this?

I feel everyone's pain. I've repaired mac laptops and desktops for years and been very comfortable. This was my first repair on an iPhone. My tasks were to replace the audio/power button cable and swap out batteries. I was able to complete both but after the phone was assembled I noticed the battery wasn't charging nor was iTunes seeing it. After trying another "Phone 5 Dock Connector and Headphone Jack" part I knew something had to be wrong. After taking macro shots around the dock flex cable socket on the logic board I noticed missing parts.

My heard sank when I compared it to a closeup that iFixit has

Anyone know of a company that could repair this? At this point the phone is useless.

PS: iFixit, your repair manuals are a huge help, I just need to respect the fragility of iPhone components. =)

Just to update this repair--Michael sent me this phone and I did replace those three components and make sure that their tested values matched schematic and that continuity was present to next components in line. There was also another missing small component near camera flex that I replaced as well.

Unfortunately, the phone still has a no USB detect, no charge problem.

I also removed the EMI shields and replaced the charging diode just to check, but it did not solve.

Final analysis: There is a pervasive and common charging problem in the iPhone 5 that stems from some sort of damage to the U2 ic chip that controls USB detection/charging. The chip becomes damaged either from use of a non-Apple charger or during other unrelated repairs.

If all the low hanging fruit have been exhausted--like changing battery/dock connector/test in known good housing----then an iPhone 5 charging problem is most likely the U2 chip.

Replacing of the U2 chip is incredibly difficult since this tiny chip shares a border with the CPU. I plan to continue to work on methods to do this repair safely, since it does seem to affect a lot of phones!

Michael Shepherd, any decent electronics repair shop should be able to replace those components. All you need is to provide them with the parts or let them order it for you. I am certain that places like mouser.com or digikey.com,as well as many other places, will have those.

Yup, that is no problem. Not even expensive.

I'll have to check the schematic, but those components can likely be sourced from other boards around the lab.

What's an estimated cost for this type of repair? I am having this same problem and am kind of wondering if it's really worth it to fix.

While this post is now very old, I thought id throw some input here for anyone who comes across the page.

There are quite a few trusted board level repairers around the world. This website can help you locate one close to you.

I personally provide iPhone 5 U2 replacement, but there's a handful who can, so it's worth checking out. It's no longer really worth it on an iPhone 5 unless data is important, but all other devices still have this problem.

will do, and have done :) For informations sake though, boardrepairinfo is hosted by me, but its a service for locating a board level tech worldwide, so there's a few of us on it. The people listed there are considered some of the best, and haven't paid to be there, so my posting the link was mostly informative and selfless (not that you were suggesting otherwise) :)
