Keyboard and trackpad not working.

Just recently changed my fan in my MacBook.

After rebuilding the laptop my keyboard and trackpad is not working/non responsive.

Usb keyboard and mouse works fine.

No light on capslock on keyboard.

It boots up fine using the power button on the right of the keyboard though.

It worked perfectly fine the first time i rebuild it but had to disassemble it again because of what i thought was a bit too loud fan noises (and high idle temperatures, since i replaced thermal paste as well).

I figured it could be three problems.

1) the topcase (i've now ordered a new one and waiting for it).

2) the ribbon cable (which will be coming with the top case)

or 3 (aka the problem i don't want at all), the connector on the logic board.

How big are the chances that it could be number 3? I'd hate to have to change logic board.

Any other tips i could be doing to get it to function again would be appreciated.

Just one question: did you try to connect the top case to the logic board while the machine was powered ?

из

lemerise; of course not.

I can happily report that it was indeed the top case that was fried. Not entirely sure how (maybe static even though i take the necessary precautions). Exchanged it and all is well.

sure it could be 3 - but does the connector in the logic board look "odd" ?

i know that the part isn't large - but i have a few boards here and i can see if the soldering points are not ok - maybe you should get a good magnifier to check it.

did you check the connection of the cable ? - maybe you should reseat it and try it again

It's currently disassembled so i can just connect power supply to it and start it, and it is not a matter of the cable not making contact.

If the cable wouldn't be seated properly i assume the power button wouldn't work? That's the thing that confuses me, that it power up fine.

Also, what i believe is the solder points behind the little sticker on the topcase (under trackpad) are not unified colours. Meaning, most of them are yellow/goldish (which i believe is a perfect solder) while others are shifting in colours. I have no experience with solderpoints but this sounds to me that it might be burnt?

Anything regarding this would be appreciated as this would indicate that it's the topcase that's broken.

thx for the pictures. i agree - those testpoints are in fact looking burnt. was there any fluid damage? you're right with the power button - but sometimes the connector gets only a little bit damaged and then works only a part of it (the contacts are like 2 lines for power and 2 usb ports (one for the trackpad and one for the keyboard)). so, normally - changing the topcase will fix the problem

из

Nope. No fluid damage.

Would the functioning of the power button indicate that the connector on the motherboard (logic board) is not damaged? That's my main concern since i can't afford changing it.

из

yes, the working power button is positive, i think the problem is the topcase.
