Where is the SSD of the FusionDrive located?

Hello everyone,

I need to change the HDD, because it makes some unusual noises, which is not a good sign.

However I have a 1TB FusionDrive, consisting of a 2,5 inch HDD and a SDD. I already checked several Teardowns and I could not locate the SSD. Is the SSD a part of the HDD like a hybrid drive? ...or is it mounted on the Logic board?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Marco Tust,

The SSD of the Fusion Drive should be located at the back of your logic board, right underneath the CPU where you see a long card-like (resembles of an Airport card). You have to flip over the logic board.

If you want to buy an SSD to replace your HDD, you don't need to take away the SSD in the back of your logic board. You can simply put a new one from your HDD.

Hope that helps.

The Fusion Drive is set up at the factory; you never have to fiddle with any settings.

The 1TB fusion drive combines a traditional hard drive with 128 GB of flash RAM to offer both significant storage capacity and enhanced performance.
