trackpad not installed do I need a driver?

once i installed a fresh version of os 10.4 my trackpad stopped working and it demands i connect a mouse do i need a driver?

Was the OS you installed, the disk for another machine? What color is the installation disk?

all apple required drivers should have been installed with the os install. if you are ok with doing this try disconnecting and reconnecting the trackpad since it is practically right under the ram cover in this model iBook

What mayer doesnt realize is that the only difference between the gray discs included with systems and the retail copy is that the gray disc looks for hardware id's for to know if it is with the computer it was shipped with and if it doesnt see them it wont install and if you did install it that way it still would have installed all drivers that go to any apple product that supports that os such as me using the disc that came with my powermac g5 to install tiger on an iBook g3. every driver is installed and works like its supposed to. in this case it sounds like the trackpad driver might have gotten corrupt and needs to be replaced. you can either reinstall 10.4 or you can get the iscroll2 driver for it but i recommend reinstalling 10.4 first

I have tried pluging and unplugging etc the disc i think was a copy from my buddie i believe not retail

Its very simple. Press the apple icon and select software update. That's it after the general system update the touchpad work again without problems.
