The instructions on this site say use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive. Unfortunately I do not have access to a heat gun, so will a hair dryer set to high do the job, or will this not be possible?

I have not done this type of repair with a hair dryer but i have used a heat gun . I would think that it would supply more than enough heat to soften the glue. I have used hair dryers on certain repairs in the past such as Ipads and other phones and tablets and it worked fine.
