I recently replaced my old hard drive with a new one and now I am trying to load the OS X on from the install disk but the hard drive isn't showing up. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've check multiple times to make sure that I installed the hard drive correctly and everything seems fine, but it still doesn't show up when I boot up the computer.

Boot from the OSX install disk.Go to the second page. Pull down menu - Utilities - Disk Utility
Then format the drive. Now do the installation.

I've tried that. The drive doesn't show up in the disk utility either and all the options are grayed out.
Try running the "Verify Disk" option. If this gives you an error, then there might be a problem with the disk.
Chris, you can't verify what you can't see.
Do you have an external enclosure or adapter to test the drive out in?

I would try to re-seat the drive in the bay. Make sure its pushed all the way back. If that doesn't work then...
I have had some issues with new drives not being recognized by macs. If that happens I usually throw them in a linux box and dd zero the drive out. (I guess osx is unix so it should have the dd command) I then either leave it unformatted or format it to fat32 or something. Most of the time the mac will pick it up at that point and I am able to format it in HFS+.
I would also check the SMART status and see if that has any errors, might be DOA drive.

What kind of drive is it? Where did it come from? How do know the drive is good? Re-check your cable connection to the drive. What happened to the old drive and was it working?

It's a 320 GB 5400 RPM Western Digital SATA that I bought here on iFixit. The old drive went out. I guess the new drive is good but I don't really know for sure. I'll recheck that cable connection for the drive.

No. It's the one ifixit recommended. Does it need to be a 320 seagate?

No, I just didn't see a 320GB WD in iFixit's part list.
