Replacement screen not working

Hi there,

So i've got this iPhone from a friend that he doesn't want anymore. It fell down hard, so hard the silver frame is a bit bend. I'm trying to fix it. I've replaced the screen but seem to get no visual. I've tried some old screen too but still no visual. If i plug it in on my computer is gets recognized and gives the 'plum'-sound or the vibration.

I don't want to reset it (home + lock) since i really want the data on it. I can connect to the computer but then i need to confirm on my iphone (problem = no visual) that i want to connect.

Anyone an idea to get a visual?

I'll try with his original computer. So then i would normally not have to click agree on the screen. But i still do want to fix the screen. So any ideas why the new one or 2 other old ones aren't reacting?

In the many repairs for me I just powered down the phone and rebooted the issues resolved themselves most of the time, the other times it was the connector ribbon was not set properly. Try checking the connections again, if that dont work yet then its possible the ribbons has a micro tear in which its time to replace that ribbon. Anyway recheck your connections and reboot the phone see if this solves your issues.. Happy fixing and have a great day.

I'll guess i'll recover the data and do a hard reset (both buttons) and hope it will give me a visual. Else the only option is the logic board i guess.

When you say screen, do you mean the digitizer(touch part of screen) or the LCD that sits behind the digitizer that displays the image. You can buy them as one unit or as single pieces. Not sure what part you have been trying.

It is definitely tied in with the LCD if you can not see any visual. If you are testing the digitizer and LCD as a single unit and none work I would check all the ribbon cables for tears, and the connections on the logic board for damage or check for corrosion if there has been previous water damage. If you find corrosion clean with 90%+ Ipopropyl alcohol.

If you were just testing digitizers than you still would have no picture if the LCD is broke and can't display. Digitizers main objective is to sense touch and relay the commands to the CPU. They play no part in displaying the image. They are usually clear sheets with one ribbon cable. Two ribbon cables on a digitizer/LCD unit.

If you knew at least one of the old test screens had a good LCD then you could surely say it would point to the logic board or connections.

I don't know if the screen is responsive to touch. I don't get any image but i know the phone is active since it made the 'energy-sound'. I guess I'll try to recover the data and then do a hard reset. If that won't do it, it will be a problem with the logic board, i guess. I fell pretty hard... I don't see any problems with the ribbons and i've redone the connections like 5 times.

Like Terry said, you may want to double check the LCDs ribbon cable for a small micro tear and to make sure it is seated properly in its connection. I have found some tears in these cables that are hard to see with out magnification, and the more you work with them the more likely they are to tear. I have found tears in these cables that where hidden behind adhesive tape as well. Sometimes they can be a real pain. After backing up your data I would try the hard reset and see if that fixes the issue because it could possible be caused by a software issue. Seems like people have had success getting there screen back on by holding the home and lock button. Some have also used voice command to tell Siri to turn up the display brightness. If your phone is able to vibrate and make sound then I would say its safe to assume the logic board is still good. Don't give up because most people in this situation seem to get the display up and going again. Lets us know if you have any luck.

So 2 days later i plugged it into a familair computer and the screen worked. Very strange but cool. Only left with the powerbutton that won't work. And since it crashed very hard the silver frame is a bit bended. So the back won't fit and the frame broke on the left upper part just above the volume buttons. But thx for the help. I guess i'll have to try and rebend the frame or something and change the cable for the powerbutton since it still 'clicks' but doesn't give a reaction on the phone itself.
