home button not working after front panel replaced

You have posted your iPad to be the 3rd Generation but if you have an iPad with a home button ribbon cable then you have an 4th Gen iPad. If your home button doesn't work, it could be that you have damaged the ribbon cable or the cable is pulled out of the port on logicboard and needs to be pushed back in, or the clicker part of the home button (the part that sites right behind the round plastic home button) is bent out of shape so when you push the button, the back of the plastic part doesn't reach the clicker because it is bent and too far from the button.

If you touch the black area of the digitizer and the LCD screen comes on, it usually means that the home button is not aligned right under the digitizer so when you touch the black part of the digitizer around the home button, the glass pushes on the home button/clicker underneath the glass and activates your iPad and LCD comes on. If this is happening, then you home button still works and you need to disregard what I said on the first paragraph and just align the home button underneath the glass so it is not pushing up against the metal parts/frame around it.

With regards to your screen having ghost clicks, or not responding to touch, you might have purchased a bad quality defective digitizer screen. There are tons of bad quality digitizers in the market that are defective.

I agree with Ron. iPad 3 dos not have a ribbon cable. I it is an iPad 4, you should be able to press the home button without having the digitizer completely in place. If it's an iPad 3 you can us a piece of metal to bridge the gap between the two pins on the charging port. Just make sure that the digitizer, and lcd screens are connected to the logic board. I've run into problems from energizing the iPad without them in place.

I am having somewhat the same problem as cstr8. My sister owns an ipad 4 and I recently replaced her digitizer. After completing my repair, everything worked perfectly except the home button. Then, I opened it again, unplugged the home button/charging port flex cable and plugged it back in.

Still didn't work but I realize at this point that when I pressed the unglued digitizer on the two metal pin, it worked just as if I pressed the click button. It's weird to me because the button seems to work (when I press the little piece onto the two metal pin) but it does nothing when it's well pressed and I used the click button.
