Water Damage + Battery Change -> No Result

My 2 year old tossed my phone in our neighborhood pool It was in an Incipio Atlas ID waterproof case. Apparently he has a good arm as the case cracked when he bounced it off the concrete. Needless to say water damage ensued. It appeared fine at the time only to realize it had died once I got home.

I opened the phone disassembled the front display, cleaned all connectors with isoproply 91% alcohol, and buried in Silica beads (enough silica to fill a big Tupperware container). Left it for 24 hours. I plugged it in to check and it showed the red sliver of battery and started a boot loop.....red sliver batter - apple logo - off - red sliver battery - apple logo - off - etc....

I ordered a batter from iFixit. Installed the battery without issue. But the phone won't even perform the boot loop with the new iFixit battery. If I put the old battery back in the same battery boot loops sequence occurs.

Does anyone have any suggestions or feedback?

sounds like damage in among the power management circuitry. Its able to detect a dead battery, and able to detect battery voltage to try to boot but can't boot. What does it do with NO battery connected? It should show a white apple for a few seconds, go off, repeat.

Not sure I will disconnect the battery and try that tonight. Any thoughts as to why it wouldn't detect the new battery from iFixIt?

Yep white apple off and repeat

white apple off repeat = phone detects no battery connected.

i'd try another battery before ruling that out.

it's possible you've got a dud battery. Its not likely if its an ifixit, they typically have pretty good stuff but it does happen. Get another battery and see what happens.

Unfortunately this game of puzzle piece cell phones really sucks when you're having to order/exchange and wait for shipping etc. I guess I'm spoiled to working in a shop where I just go grab another out of the bin.

??

Bobby, initially, you suspected "damage in among the power management circuitry". The OP intentionally disconnected the battery for this test, as you suggested. Is the result NOT what one would expect if there was damage in among the power management circuitry? You say the behavior it displayed is the behavior it should display. Confused.

In other words: do you still think "damage in among the power management circuitry" is the most likely culprit? Are you suggesting another battery mainly because it's cheaper and easier to replace than bad circuitry, even though that's not the most likely problem?
