Damage to iPhone 4 logic board - please help

Hey guys,

I hope someone can help me. I was removing the dock connector cable from the logic board, something I have done countless times before only this time I was in a big rush and I popped a tiny piece off the logic board right above the connector socket.

I'm unsure what this part does but I haven't attempted to power on the phone in case it causes further damage. The connectors on the logic board appear to be fine so I'm hoping the part can be soldered back into place.

Does anyone have any advice please? The part in question is a tiny little black square piece and I'm certain my soldering skills are not up to the task. Who would I go to for this type of work?

Pic of the damaged logic board (hopefully you can see where the part has popped off) https://flic.kr/p/wo3Bxw

Thanks for looking.

Jamie.

jamietb, if the part you peel off is the one in the red circle, then that is reference designator L5.

It is a TCM1210-4SM common mode filter. Yes, it can most certainly be soldered back on. Depending on where you are, check for shops that do micro soldering.

Thanks so much for the response. Do you happen to know what the part does? I've tried to google it but not found a whole lot.

The phone appears to be working fine although I haven't plugged it in to charge.

Thanks again,

Jamie.

Looks like it is the negative lead for the data line. You may have trouble syncing etc:-)
