New RAM installed - black screen - sil blinking or solid

Hello,

I recently swapped out RAM and cleaned/reapplied heat sink. When I try to start computer I hear the fan and harddrive spin. I do NOT hear the chime. I've tried reinstalling RAM and restarting. If I have one or both pieces of RAM installed, the SIL either stays solid white or blinks repeatedly in groups of threes (three blinks, pause, three blinks, pause...). Doesn't seem to care if one or both pieces are in. If I take RAM out completely the SIL blinks repeatedly at the same interval (about a 3 second pause in between each blink). First question: Should this RAM be compatible with mid 2010 macbook pro?

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory (CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9)

...everything I've seen points to yes. I would try to reinstall my old RAM but I've now misplaced it!!

It's possible I messed up the logic board/display also, other things I've tried with no luck:

Booting with an external monitor attached

PRAM reset

Detaching logic board components to see if I get chime

The different SIL actions suggests it is failing at the point of RAM check, although a lot of what I read says that I should hear the chime if its getting past the initial boot processes.

Any suggestions or thoughts on the culprit??

Thanks!

-Pete
