Can I fix the home button?

Hi.

Apple can't (don't want to) fix the home button.

It works sometimes but very rarely. So I must switch off my iPod with the button on top and switch on to change the menu. Without this main button, I can't go out of "Music", or any menu.

I AM WORKING ON A MACINTOSH BUT I HAVE A PC TOO DURING THIS CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY.

An idea?

Thank you!

Tom

Call me crazy, but your best bet would be to jailbreak and install SBSettings. That application is always available by a swipe on top of the menu bar. It allows you to quit an app without using the home button.

Of course, you can certainly try to replace the home button- but, having taken apart a first generation Touch myself, I know from experience that it is a very difficult repair.

Thank you for that answer.

As I'm not a "professional" I had to do some research about jailbreaking. I found a freeware called PwnageTool which is well-done.

BUT with this application I must press the home button and the top button at the end of the process. Naturally, it failed.

Do you know an other programm wich allows to restore "iPod1_1_3.1.2" because I have tis version?

PwnageTool works with this kind of file "iPod1_1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw".

I have a Macbook. But there is a PC at home at this time too.

If you Google 'jailbreak without home button', you'll see that there are many other people in the same position as you, and so far I haven't seen anyone figure out a way around it.

There is a relatively new application called "blackra1n" available at www.blackra1n.com (for both Mac and pc) and it sticks the iPhone/iPod Touch in DFU mode automatically so all you have to do is plug it into the computer, open Blackra1n and press "Make It Ra1n"

I also have a dodgy home button but I installed an extra thing called MQuickDo which creates effectively a digital "home button" if you like at the bottom of the screen. You use it by moving your finger from the bottom of the screen (offscreen) up ONTO the screen and you see the bar appear, then you can swipe left/right short/long and configure each to do different things such as "simulate home button press" etc.
