Broke plastic connector for temperature sensor?

Hey,

While trying to upgrade the SSD, I accidentally broke the plastic connector to what I think is the 'Right Temperature Sensor' according to iFixIt.

This is a picture with a similar cable coming from the optical drive that I guess is also a temperature sensor:

To see this on the logic board, look at the first link here where the connector is at the furthest left in the blue box:

In the blue box farthest left is the cable

The entire logic board can be seen in this image from iFixIt:

First I want to know, can I replace this wire? I found this on an external website since I couldn't find it here. Is this the right cable?:

Is this the right cable? (External to iFixIt link)

I was planning on trying to put the connectors back into their slotting and use poster putty and electrical tape to fix them in place. Is that a fair fix for this issue?

How would I replace this cable if I had to, and what does it even do? I guess it's important for the fan control and heat sink, but I guess I really screwed up badly then.

I'll really appreciate any help!

First tell us what you did. Did you replace the original hard drive with an SSD? Have you booted it up and noticed run away fans? Are you saying there was a temperature sensor on the hard drive? If so check your model, this may not be a 2011. There is a sensor cable on the optical drive and it's not picky about replacing but you do need it for the optical drive fan.

Most of 2011 models that I've seen do not have an external temperature sensor. But the drive has Apple priority firmware with built in sensors (this differs from the 2010. To prevent the fans from running away you need an in-line sensor produced by OWC.

I believe he is talking about the skin temp sensor which was connected to the top of the housing near to the camera.

My best recommendation - get another same male unused connector, cut them and re-wire. :)
