iPad touch screen failed due to logic board?

Hi,

A friend gave me her iPad to fix after the digitizer stopped responding. Everything else seems to work fine. The first few times it came back after putting it in Recovery Mode. Finally that stopped working so I did a Total Restore. Now it's stuck on the "Hello" screen and won't go any farther without a swipe.

I took it apart and there were no loose or cracked cables or connectors, so I ordered a replacement digitizer. Replacing the digitizer, and inserting the cable until the white line was gone, had no effect. LCD and all buttons seem to work fine. Is it possibly a logic board issue?

Thanks for the responses.

A friend had been having trouble with her iPad 3rd Gen digitizer occasionally not responding to any touches or swipes. Several times over few months I put the iPad in Recovery mode (using iTunes) and the digitizer starting responding again. Finally the digitizer no longer responded even after being put in recovery mode or after several hard resets (holding "power" and "Home" buttons for 10 seconds). So this time I performed a Restore from iTunes hoping that would clear up any problems. However, the digitizer still didn't respond and the iPad was stuck on the "Hello" screen (photo 1).

I then ordered some tools and used them to take the iPad apart using the instructions on iFixIt.com. I cleaned the contacts with isopropanol and reseated the cable as shown in photo 2.

Still the digitizer did not respond. The cable looked good and un-cracked. So I decided it may be a bad digitizer ordered a replacement digitizer. Upon receipt, I opened the iPad again, removed the old digitizer and connected the new one. Photos 4 and 5 show the white line and the contact sides of the connector after installation.

Again, upon re-starting the screen cycles through the different "Hello" messages (Photo 3) but I can't "slide to configure" because the digitizer doesn't respond.

I'm convinced something's wrong on the logic board. The LCD and all of the buttons seem to work fine and the connectors and cables look good. Given it's age and model, I don't see this iPad being worthy of a logic board replacement.

I'm ready to forget about it and sell everything for parts on eBay.
