Common Encounter: Hard Drive in Optical Bay - Good or Bad?

The question I get all the time, that I don't know the answer to, is whether or not it's a good idea to insert a hard drive into an optical drive bay to achieve more space, using an optical drive bay adapter from NewerTech.

I'm Seeking feedback: is it a good good idea? Bad idea? Slower than the drive bay? Same speed?

Why not just toss a Samsung 1TB drive in your Mac and rejoice? :)

In my opinion ( yes, we all know I'm very opinionated), that's why I'm so loved - hated. A hard drive in the optical bay is an option of last resort. The BUS is slow. Problems getting it to work, compatibility issues, the cost of the bay adapter. If you need more storage go with a SSHD - better speed, more storage, GB for GB a better value. extends the utility life of the machine, you don't lose functionality of the optical dive.
