Problems charging with original and non-OEM battery

I have a similar general question but likely different issue and answer.

My Dell Latitude D610 worked with a bad battery as long as I had it plugged in. I had bought a new but non-OEM battery and charged it, but trying to save it for only as needed, I just used the other old battery plugged in.

Now the new battery won't recharge and the old one doesn't work even if plugged in. The I believe nice guy who sold it to me told me that I likely damaged the new battery by letting it fully discharge, even though I never had this problem with the original DEll battery.

Any ideas what might be wrong? And whether I can fix or re-charge/re-program the new battery to work?

Thanks, VAn

The laptop still turns on while plugged in correct?

What does it say for both batteries when plugged in?

If it's similar to this image below but saying (0% Available, charging) for a long time, let it charge longer as this may mean that the battery voltage is very low and can take time for it to charge back up.

Are you using a original dell charger? If not, you may get the not charging text in that image.

You can use a program called HWMonitor to read the battery capacity, level and voltage.

Website to download the software (Very useful for diagnosing battery charge issues):

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor...

Check the wear level % if it's specified in there and the battery voltage. If the battery voltage is well under 11.1v and says charging. Let it charge and keep checking if the battery voltage goes up through the application.

Sorry for delay in response-have to go to library now to access PC. No I cannot get PC to run even if plugged in. I let battery charge for day or two with no response. No lights either. I also did what one site said to as recall unplug, take battery out and try powering up without battery. I have a battery replacement that is supposed to be DELL oem I bought from Ebay I believe.

The local shop where I bought the replacement battery (non OEM) said I may well have damaged the cells by letting it totally discharge without recharging but not sure from what I read. Any ideas. Thanks, God bless, Van
