iPhone 3G

Do I need a new logic board?

My phone had slight water damage about 2 months ago - some problems for about a week, but then worked fine.

Two weeks ago, I dropped the phone and cracked the screen. Touch still worked fine. I repaired the screen, and suddenly my touchscreen was very erratic and had no alignment to where I was touching. I thought it was a faulty digitizer cable, so replaced it a second time. Same problem - the screen registers my touch, but is not aligning to the place that I actually touch the screen.

My question is - what are the chances that I got a second faulty digitizer? Do you think it is the logic board that I need to replace? Again, the touch screen was accurate even with a cracked screen until I replaced it. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I really want to avoid spending a fortune on a replacement.

In my experience, the problem you are describing is usually caused by a faulty front panel/digitizer. I recommend making sure the front panel is for an iPhone 3G (and not the 3GS) and that it is plugged in correctly, then try and get a replacement from the business that sold you the front panel.

Also, try plugging in the cracked front panel, if you still have it, to see if it has accurate touch sensitivity.

How can I tell if it is for a 3G and not 3GS? I was thinking - I could try to plug it into my friend's phone and then test out my screen. If it works, then it would probably be the logic board. If it's still doing the same thing, then I can try to get yet another replacement!! Does that sounds like a correct assessment? All I'm going off of is the research I've done on this - and it's tough to find an exact answer for this problem. Thanks. Oh - and I already threw away the cracked panal, not realizing that this had a possiblity of happening. :(

Update - I called the place where I purchased both screens, and they think that their entire stock is faulty. So, HOPEFULLY it is just the digitizer and I can get one that isn't faulty and that will fix the problem. Thanks again!
