My 15" unibody was behaving erratically (constantly rebooting itself) removed the keyboard plug and shorted the proper pads for my model and voilà no more problems!
Can I remove the power piece by cutting it and using the keyboard normally?

That would not be an effective repair!
How about we guide you on diagnosing things a bit deeper here and if needed replacing the keyboard.

In fact it turned out to be a very effective temporary repair. You see there was more diagnostic done and not published in the web...

Its a common design flaw on power buttons that why modern versions have a different design than the in case aluminum button.
The keyboard never had a spill of any kind. After removing the keyboard ribbon cable from the logic board and shorting the power pads the machine ran absolutely fine with a usb keyboard for hours later on after reconnecting the keyboard to logic board problem re emerged.
Seem to be the keyboard. All I wanted to know was if by removing the power button piece the keyboard was usable.
Took the risk after determining for sure it was a keyboard problem and the keyboard works fine (Temporal Fix) Factors that made me take the risk were simple if I cut the power button either it would work or not i can still jump start and use usb keyboard.

I beg to differ here. I couldn't hand this system back to a customer telling them they need to pop off the bottom cover to start their system by shorting across the pads.

REFOCUS, this is a temporal fix for a personal computer. Never have I mentioned this is a scru·pu·lous fix . Is just a temporal fix that would allow you to use the computer while the parts arrive. Taking the logic board out of the equation...

If you did not understood well I can make this a little simpler for you, Imagine a user using his laptop when all the sudden the computer starts to VERY RANDOMLY crash and reboot and you've tried everything from different hard drive to different memory to genius bar appointment doing the apple hardware test and having it crash..due to the very sensitive damaged button being triggered with the problem resulting as persistent wouldn't you like to have a PEACE OF MIND to have found a solution to this randomness ? problem conclusion? keyboard component needs replacement.
