My lens is blacking out

The lens is blacking out.

When I turn on my camera the screen blacks out and won't take a picture but will still show the box (it turns red so it doesn't focus). It seems as if the lens thinks it is seeing pure darkness and there is nothing to focus on.

And when I tried to take photo outside, it will work, (outdoor) but if I take pictures inside (indoor, must say no lights at all) it wont work.

, I have j4, when attaching my Nikon 1 10=100 lense there is no picture, its blank,, but when I attach the 10-30- zoom lense or the 30-110 lense every thing works fine, any advice will be amazing.

THE 10-100 is a Manual lense, assuming the lense is the issue, but its virtually brand new, have tried re attaching the lense , same issue, please advise

thanks in advance

Same has happened to me after very little use; seems like a common problem. Only works zoomed out, and then at ISO 6400 slow shutter and wide open; very, very dark. I think the whole 1 Series is junk. Hoping the Z50 will hold up better.

If you test your camera with a lens that is known to function properly you should find that the defect is in the lenses. I have the identical problem with a 10-30mm and 30-110mm lens I purchased used. I contact acted Nikon about a remedy and I have yet to receive a reply. That was two weeks ago and I am not holding my breath. This represents terrible production and quality control.

I had the same problem with a Nikon One S1, where both lenses do not seem to open up the iris.

I tried cleaning the contacts on the body and lenses, but to no avail. I also tried cleaning and

blowing the other connections on the camera to see if that might be the problem.

I will be buying a new battery to see if that might be the problem, or otherwise I will be sending

the body and lenses back to Nikon for check up and (if possible) repairs.

The problem is with the lens itself. Modern lenses require good electrical connections since mechanical ones are a thing of the past. I tested the camera with lens that work and performance is excellent. I’m sending off two lens for repair despite receiving no communication from Nikon. I’m sure they’re very busy. I’ll have more if and when this is resolved.

The problem in most cases seems to be that the plastic gear on the motor that opens and closes the aperture develops a crack. The gear no longer fits tightly on the axle, which just spins around unable to rotate the gear. A company called MYDC in Taiwan will replace the plastic gear with a brass one. Or they will sell you a brass gear to install yourself. I did the latter on my 30-110mm lens - and can say that repair is NOT for the faint of heart. But after doing it my 30-110mm lens now functions properly. BTW, I did have Nikon Canada do the same type of repair once, and the lens’ aperture mechanism failed again within three years. The repair part they used was not durable enough.

My lens has developed the same problem and Nikon South Africa just says they are not interested / the camera has been discontinued / no parts available. Does anyone know of a repair shop in SA that will attempt this repair? I tried Ludwigs Photographics but got the same response.
