Why does it say airport card not installed?

I dropped my pro a few weeks ago and it damaged my left i/o card. I have since replaced it and everyone thing is working fine until I notice that the airport icon at the top said airport card not installed. I have checked internally and it seems to be seated ok and none of the wires I can see coming form it are damaged. I have tried different ways of restarting including smc reset and holding down opt + command + r + p when turning on. I wanted to find out if there was anything else I could to check before I bought a new card.

Push on it

looking wont show if it's slightly out or cocked. Use Utilities->System Profiler->Network:Airport to tell if it's detected by the OS, but not enabled on the Network. System Preferences->Network (+,-) to enable components.

Thanks for the response. I opened her up and refitted the the card. Same deal "Airport Card Not Installed". I followed your instructions to system profiler and under airport it says the following:

Software Versions:

Menu Extra: 6.2.1 (621.1)

configd plug-in: 6.2.3 (623.1)

System Profiler: 6.0 (600.9)

Network Preference: 6.2.1 (621.1)

AirPort Utility: 5.5.1 (551.19)

IO80211 Family: 3.1.1 (311.1)

Not sure what I am suppose to see here that tells me that the os is detecting it but I'm guess it is not as it is just displaying software info. Also, I took a gander at system preferences to enable airport. Airport status is off and I can press the button 'Turn Airport On' but nothing happens.

Is it time for a new card?

Yes, the card seems bad, though it could also be the connector, it is not showing up in System Profiler, and won't turn on (it should if it's working). Under System Profiler you should also see (below what you've written) somthing like the following. Interfaces:

Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x87)

Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.91.27)

Locale: FCC

Country Code: X0

Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n

Supported Channels: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 36, 40, 44,

48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165

Status: Also from the System Preferences->Airport-> Advanced button: Ethernet you should be able to see an Ethernet ID number.

Looks like a bad card. I got nothing on System Profiler and in System Preferences. Thanks a bunch for the help. Really appreciate it.
