Trackpad is overly sensitive

My mid 2011 13" Macbook Air is suffering from an overly sensitive trackpad.

The slightest touch seems to be interpreted as a 2 finger touch so it's almost impossible to not select whatever you're trying to click on. I have replaced the trackpad and that worked for a while. I've replaced the battery and that worked for a while.

I've done the press hard on diagonally opposing corners of the pad, and that works for a few minutes.

Does anybody have any further recommendations?

The computer is pretty much impossible to use at this point although a remote trackpad works fine.

Thanks!

Have you been using a cleaner of some sort on the system? If you have its likely what you have used is effecting the trackpad. Also the way you clean the trackpad area can cause issues. Often I find people wet the system Vs the cleaning cloth (just slightly damp) to wipe the system down and you need to use the correct cleaner. Sadly, if that is the issue here you'll likely need to replace the trackpad again.

If you've not been using anything to clean the upper case/trackpad then I would suspect you have something on your hands. Are your hands overly wet or greasy? Do you use hand cream or hand sanitizer?

Nope, no cleaner since the new trackpad was installed. The problem cropped back up only a few days after the replacement. It seems to me that it's a physical issue as pressing hard on diagonally opposing corners of the pad rectifies the issue, but only for a few minutes. Really don't want to buy a new computer but this is my wife's unit so the pressure is on to get it fixed. A remote trackpad works fine but isn't convenient of course.

You said you replaced the battery. Its known to press on the trackpad when it blisters. I would take the battery out and use a straight edge to gage if it has a bulge. If it does then either its' either a bad battery or the MagSafe/charging logic is over charging the battery causing it to expand.

Thanks Dan, I'll take it apart, again. I was assuming, perhaps falsely, that because I replaced the battery that that was unlikely to be the problem. I'm tempted to fire it up with the back off the computer but I'm worried that this might be a bad idea.

Make sure the MagSafe chargers cord is not damaged as it could short out the SMC logic which could be the source of the over charging. Also check the MagSafe connector is it clean is it melted and check the cord contacts (unplugged) press on the pins do they retract a bit (don't over press and don't use any metal in the systems socket).

Try going to the system preferences => trackpad and turn the slider on the bottom left to the middle or lower until your desired sensitivity

I'm afraid this isn't a settings issue. I'm way past that sort of solution.
