Help me with my tv please

Hi my lg plasma tv made a weird buzzing noise then went green whenever i turned off the cable box, and then the buttons and audio on the tv stopped working and the tv wouldn't turn off even when i press power on both the tv and remote. I fixed the tv by unplugging it and plugged it back it, but i want to know what caused this and how i can prevent it?
