Hi,

What is the make and model number of your router?

To verify, do you have a wireless internet service with AT&T or an ADSL service with WiFi connection to your PC?

If you have a ADSL connection via cable then WiFi to your PC, check the following:

If your landline telephone service shares the ADSL line listen and see if the line is noisy, (pick up phone, dial just one digit to break the dial tone and then listen carefully for any noise). Be aware the fault could also be in the line socket or even the 'splitter'. Try plugging and unplugging the modem cable from the ADSL line splitter socket, (I assume that you have an inline splitter connected to separate the telephone service from the ADSL service?) and also from the splitter to the telephone line socket, to clean up the connections. A faulty line can dramatically reduce line speed.

If the line 'sounds' clear and you have a WiFi connection to your PC, download, install and run a free WiFi scanner program such as inSSIder (http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-i...) to see if you are "sharing" the same WIFi channel as other WiFi networks in your area. This can also reduce speed. By default most Wireless Modem/Routers select CH 1 or 6 as the default channel. Try changing it to a less "busy" channel and see if the speed improves. (by sharing I mean that you are using the same channel frequency as the other users, not that your PC is sharing files or other info)

The scanner program also shows the signal level of your WiFi. If it is low (remember the higher the number the worse it is - they are in -ve dB values) it may be that you are experiencing an interference problem. If you are on a laptop try moving it around to different locations to see if it improves the signal strength. If still no good try another laptop (if that is the case - load up inSSIDer on it and check its' signal strength. You may have a faulty WiFi chip/antenna in your laptop

No problems with my phone, here is some possible information https://gyazo.com/ea504546216ae3ad922df4...

Also would you suggest I change the mode on my router? It is currently Mixed 11b, 11g & 11n. Currently installing this thing

Hi, What is the type of WiFi installed in your PC's? I suggest that you match the modem to whatever it has.

Can you connect using an Ethernet cable to download OK to prove that it is only a WiFi problem and not a modem problem?

из

Hello, not quite sure how to check my installed wifi unless you're talking about https://gyazo.com/22225a02c5d2b3d4cb754e... . I finished downloading the program you sent in about 10 minutes using ethernet (it was 4.5 mb)

Hi, Your laptop's WiFi is a Qualcomm Atheros 9485 as you have shown. It is a b/g/n type so your setting is good. If your Ethernet is that slow the problem is with your modem. What model is it? Too much to read through quickly but have you reset the modem back to factory by depressing the reset button (usually pin hole in back of modem and then re entering all the set up info? If that fails it appears that the modem may have a problem. With the model number you vcan check if there are any 'firmware' updates available for it. Sometimes updating or even reinstalling the same firmware removes any glitches in the software that a reset doesn't. if all this fails you modem is faulty and needs to be replaced. If you need a new one get it working on Ethernet first then worry about WiFi.

Just a query, do you have a wireless modem/router or a modem with a separate wireless router connected?

If the latter, try connecting the Ethernet directly into the modem, not the wireless router and see what the download speed is like.

Robert, All I can suggest is for you to try a reset on the modem/router, turn everything off, unplug modem/router for 5 minutes. Plug all back in and check performance, if still not acceptable contact your service provider as there could be a transmission/line problem.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

I've unplugged my modem for 15 minutes the other day and it didn't solve anything :/ the first time we contacted att to complain they gave us a tv remote to fix it, the second time they said it's exceptional

Robert, run a speed test yourself on the internet, see if you are getting the speed you are paying for. Try a different search engine to see if that helps, Run a good virus scan and a Free Malware Removal Tool which removes Malware, Spyware, Rootkits, Adware.

из

Downstream Rate of 8128 Kbps (8mbps) is what I am paying for, I have tried all of those

из

Try a different device on the internet, if you are running wireless try wired. You could also try a system restore back to when system was OK, to see if an update or something caused issue. logging out for the night. Good Luck.

My laptop is showing the same speed results

To help isolate the issue, run a direct ethernet cable to the modem and test. Then hook it up directly to the router. There are to many variables right now to give you a better answer.

Ok Robert, I have a couple solutions for you that may or may not work.

1. Try using Ethernet to connect to the router. If you achieve your normal speed using ethernet then you are most likely having a range problem.

2. Try manually forgetting the network from your computer. In your screenshot, it looks as if there is some type of error in the way your computer attempts to access the router. Forgetting the network and connecting again will force your computer to download those "settings" again.

3. Try running your computer directly into the modem (unplug the ethernet cable running into your router and connect your PC directly.) and see if you are achieving the speed you desire. If number 1 and 2 don't work and this does, You will need to purchase a new router.

4. Try using another device for the steps listed above. (If possible, use a friends PC to test it as the device has never connected to the network before.) If using another device fixes the problem you might be able to fix the problem by factory resetting your modem. This will wipe its database of all the devices that have connected to the network in the past.

5. Get a new router. Sometimes routers will just die. You may be more than able to fix your problem by buying a new router.

6. Check your cables. It's very simple and may save you a router purchase. Possibly buying new ethernet cables might help as well.

----------------------------------------

Number 5 will most likely solve your problem :)

Best of Luck,

Tyler Hoban

There are many reasons why is my internet so slow. Internet speed can depend on several factors. You need to check your computer system, network cable, broadband modem, wireless router and even the number of devices connected to Wifi. First of all, you need test your Internet’s speed by paying a quick visit to The Global Broadband Internet Speed Test. You just click “Begin Test“, you can see your download speed which is the speed of the data sent from the Internet to your PC. I have a few tips to make your internet better

  • Change the Best Wireless Channel
  • Limit number of devices connected to wifi
  • Change DNS Server
