@renomd what size HDD does it have now and what capacity upgrade were you thinknig off?
из oldturkey03
it has a 10GB drive (MK1003GAL). I'm looking for a higher capacity obviously, but am wondering if the firmware has a drive limit to it.

A 20GB will definitely work since there was a 20GB version and no firmware issues with it. I've had no issue with a 30GB and the firmware did allow the upgrade and no issues with the RAM either during playback and syncing.

I can say that the iPod 2nd gen with the touch wheel is not compatible with the MK2006GAL or MK3006GAL. Received both, they work on an IDE converter but the iPod is unable to use them.

I tried an MK2004GAL (20GB) on an iPod 1G and was unsuccessful during the restore process in iTunes. It also worked well on a PC so definitely a compatibility issue. The 1G and 2G share the same firmware so...
I've also tried compact flash adapters and SD to Ziff to IDE adapters sold on iFlash.xyz and have been unsuccessful. I'm about to try their mSATA adapter and I'll post a follow up here. I think the 1G and 2G have the best DAC for audio playback.
Also working with an iPod Mini 2G and iPod 4G seeing they should work with my SD to CF adapters and Rockbox. Those might be the sweet spot for getting classic hardware to run with higher capacity storage.
