Screen intermittently flashing off and on when at log in stage

The laptop loads up and once I've entered my password the screen goes orange then the icons load up then the screen goes blue. The blue circle keeps going round as if it's loading all the time. The screen flashes on and off and it won't let me click on anything or type anything.

What is the exact model number of your laptop and what OS is installed?

It's a Windows 8 and it's a model number aspire v5 series ZHL

There is also a V5-123-12104O50nss not sure if this is the number.

Hi Amanda,

Get into the Window Recovery Environment by using the power button to restart your computer three times. This will start the Windows Recovery Environment.

In the Windows Recovery Environment, on the Choose an option screen, tap or click Troubleshoot. Try starting Windows in safe mode

Thank you... I have done what you have said, start computer 3 times which then said repairing your computer, then starting diagnostics, then put the password in and the screen loaded up then started intermittently going off and on again.

Any other ideas please?
