The iOpener is an insulated, heat-retaining bag that can be heated in a microwave and used to transfer heat to the adhesive along the edge of an iPad or similar device.

Very, very, very careful use of a heat gun at that!

I know this is a bit late ;>)...

If you are a shop and will be doing iPad repairs on a regular basis, then a heated mat station like this is the preferred solution.

However, if this is for a one-off, the these "Magic Bags" work really well. This one is large enough to cover an entire iPad making it perfect for a digitizer replacement and you can use it at home when you have sore muscles.

I used the back of a stoneware plate taken out of the dishwasher after the drying cycle was done. It was quite warm and stayed that way for a long time and did the job fine. Based on previous battery replacement projects, I thought the back of the phone would have to be pried out of attachment fittings on the phone body, but in fact it was mostly held on with glue, so heating and alcohol along with suction as described on this site are the way to go. Also you should purchase the OEM double sticky tape to reassemble the device nicely after the battery replacement.

Great suggestion. We have a few ceramic plates to protect surfaces from hot pots. I will heat one up on my griddle, 140℉ as a starting point, and work from there.

Thanks.
