Can I use a MacBook A1181 screen in a A1342?

Hi,

I have two macbooks (a A1181 and a A1342) that had a hard time ...

My A1181 is completely dead and my 1342 still works but the screen is dark , something with the back-light I guess (I can still see what's written if I put a light just next to the screen ...)

Can I use the screen in the A1181 and put it in the A1342 ?

I really hope someone can help (I tried to find the answer already but couldn't figure it out myself ...)

Thanks in advance !

Baptiste.

Thanks for the answer.

I tried in the meantime to check if I could find the information somewhere else and so far from what I understood ... You must be right ...

I think I'll just have to resell the dead one for parts and see if that can pay for the screen for the other one ...

Any idea of how much I could sell a 1881 completly open a without proper diagnose of what is the problem :s ?

Thanks again.

You're welcome! Glad I could help out a bit. I'm not sure how much you could sell your broken display for, but I'm sure there are companies or hobbyist technicians who might be willing to buy broken components. Fellow iFixIt community member, rdklinc, buys broken Mac computers from people through his website http://www.rdklinc.com, but I'm not sure if he'd buy back separate components. If you contacted him, you could find out more. Hope you are able to get your hands on a working display soon! I hope you remain active on the iFixIt Answers page and within the community!

Hi,

You cannot use A1181 LCDs in the A1342 Macbook.

You can, however, use A1278 LCDs such as the LTN133AT09, B133EW04, B133EW07, LP133WX3-TLA*, in the A1342 Macbook.

I'm pretty sure the LCD displays in the MacBooks you have would be incompatible if swapped into either machine. If you look at both displays in iFixIt's parts store, you'll see that they both have different model numbers (IF186-050-1 in the A1181 MacBook and IF163-024 in the A1342 Unibody MacBook). I'm fairly certain they both have a very different construction as well, seeing as though the MacBook underwent major design changes when the transition from MacBook to Unibody MacBook took place. Hope this helps!
