Phone in soda for about 60 seconds

Last night I dropped my phone in my drink for a solid 30 - 60 seconds. Long story about how and why that happened. I couldn't turn it off immediately since there's no removable battery and the screen display went black (I later found out the display cable/connector was right around the area it was submerged in) but it was still playing Spotify. I unplugged and attempted to suck out all the soda that I could and ran my vehicle's heat on it at max temp for a few minutes since I was driving and couldn't stop or do anything else.

Before bed I left my phone in a bag of rice completely taken apart. Back off, motherboard separated, and battery outside of the bag. The device was only submerged maybe 50% of the way. I've woken up and tried testing it out and the screen turns on! However, when it boots up fully the screen goes black. If I sit the phone face down and pick it up, it will display the time, date, and a WhatsApp error saying the date/time is off. If I touch the screen or press the power button it will instantly fade to black. The entire time the phone is turning on, the display is fully on and nothing is wrong with it except for when it fully boots into OS. Any ideas?

@serfma ,Jordan. The rice will not have helped save your phone. Stop charging or powering up your device until the liquid/soda damage is addressed correctly, as you could be shorting out components inside the phone. You really should take care of the corrosion that is happening inside the phone from the liquid damage as that could be your problem. A tear down link for your device Link #1, disassembly guide will enable you to get inside the phone to remove the damage/corrosion caused by the liquid. Use the 2nd link as a guide/instruction on how to clean/repair the device from liquid damage. After this you will be able to power on the phone and see if further damage has to be addressed. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Hmm so would the rice trick have done anything at all to help absorb any liquid? I have powered it down yet again and will clean the motherboard + connectors with isopropyl, at least 90%, and a toothbrush or something similar and allow it to dry and then go from there. Is there any sort of time limit of when I should start cleaning it?

@serfma no! Rice does not do anything. Total waste of time and rice. Yes there is a timelimit which starts at the time of immersion. Corrosion starts immediately so the longer you wait the more corrosion you'll get. Stop trying to do anything with the phone since that is a surefire step to shortcircuit components on the board

@serfma,Jordan, You can start cleaning immediately, the sooner the better, make sure the rice has not jammed itself in any where and work carefully as you do not want to dislodge or damage components/pins/connectors/etc. Good luck.

Should I submerge the motherboard in 90% ISO for a few seconds before starting to clean it off? I read a little of the second link and I just want to verify before proceeding anything. :)

@serfma , Yes, you can 90% ISO or better, again when cleaning careful not to damage other components. We are volunteer's here at this site and I may gone for a bit. Good luck.
