Please tell us your exact machine and what OS X you are trying to install. Any answer given before we get this information is strictly speculation and premature! This means you @cam2363 and @jedk

@mayer isnt it basically the same with all macbooks, you just make a bootable usb and boot into it to reinstall the os?

@cam2363 My bet is that he's trying to install Sierra on a 2009 or earlier and it won't take it. Best to get the facts first. https://www.tekrevue.com/macos-sierra-sy...

It sounds like its a bad install of mac osx. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372 That link should help you make a bootable usb stick that you can use to reinstall mac osx. The circle with a line means that its a bad operating system i think as ive had the problem before. Use the genuine apple installs and follow the instructions in that link and that should help you resolve your issue.

Hope this helps and good luck fixing!

Reboot your Mac and press and hold the Command and V keys simultaneously as soon as you hear the Mac startup chime. You’ll see the boot log instead of the gray boot screen, and you'll be able to see exactly what is causing the issue you’re attempting to troubleshoot.

I think the error you might be getting is caused from the Date being off on your computer. Thats what I have found it to be several times while trying a reinstall or a fresh install of an OS. I would boot up into the installer and then use the Terminal command. If you would go to the Terminal and then type in Date to see if it is the right date set on your computer that will help you figure out if you need to change it or not you can find instructional videos online to help you with changing it if you need to. Say you type in the date and it comes back with July 5 2001 you wont be able to install Sierra because the computer thinks it hasn't come out yet. I tried to leave the instructions on how to do it here but I was marked as Spam..
