Audio cutting out when applying pressure onto keyboard surface.

I am having this issue to which, whenever I slightly bend or tap the left and right surfaces by the mouse pad, the audio makes a pop noise and stops working. I then would have to turn off or put my laptop to sleep and the audio would return. However, any considerable pressure on the surfaces on the side of the mouse pad always causes this with always a pop noise. Something must be loose inside, but I don't exactly know how to identify what part is the audio hardware.

The sound cable probably runs near the sensitive point you identified as being next to the track pad. If you are up to it, try to open the case and check the wiring near the track pad. What may be going on is the wire is being pinched and possibly shorting out. You can find take apart guides for Asus here Asus Laptop. If you do find a pinch or bare wire on the sound cable then use thin tape as laptops have a tight fit.

I just finished diagnosing an X555 with the same issue. The problem was with the connection between the motherboard and the HDD/Audio daughterboard. When pressure is applied to the top of the case, it would flex and cause some pins to stop making contact (I noticed the power/status lights would not work when pressure was applied either).

This is not a great design choice by ASUS and I hope to fix the machine by replacing the screws that were missing from the rear of the case which should make it more rigid and reduce the amount of flex.
